for this album, ebo joined forces with 12-piece band ‘the pelikans’ — from the cape coast region of ghana — led by bessa simmona, with rhythm guitarist fifi orleans lindsay. a genuine ‘holy-grail’ of ghanaian music and one of ebo’s most saught-after.
the album was released on the small abookyi label. named after a nightclub they played in called pelikans, and sung in english and fante, this was the first album where ebo sang on tracks, such as the classic ‘come along’, on which he also plays keyboard. this song clearly defined a new direction in highlife and has become a ghanaian funk anthem. ‘come along’ formed the basis of sadat x’s ‘remember that’ hip hop jam from 2011.

formed in 1997, and inaugurated that year with a split 12inch from new-comers and label founders, solvent and lowfish, this year suction records celebrates its 20th anniversary with the re-introduction of their famed snow robots series of compilations. while originally started as a north american answer to uk electronix labels like rephlex, skam and warp records, a sound that is still a staple of the current suction records catalog, suctions sound has also swerved into new territories, reflecting our love of dark 80s electronic music synthpop, ebm, and beyond. snow robots volume 4 features an international array of artists, fromsuction records mainstays like digital poodle, june, celldoed, and ceramic hello (with their much sought-after 1982 vocoder anthem), to label-favourites appearing on suction records for the first time: beau wanzer, morah, and one of skanfrom/sleeparchives lesser known aliases, civil defence programme.

the second vinyl release from betyar records is butter solkimÆs savaria ep, which is the fifth in the row of the publications. there are four tracks on the vinyl: two original versions and two remixes by miklos vajda. the tracks are still very harmonious, deep and a little melancholic. anyone who ever listens to this vinyl will be a part of a special journey. the release is a worthy offspring of the first vinyl published by betyar records titled the sun breaks over the mountains by miklos vajda.

arkansas native, lee moore moved to memphis in 1975 with only one goal in mind: to make it big in the music industry and to release music that would be played in new york, l.a and everywhere in between. as a singer and songwriter lee moore spent the 1980s collaborating in memphis with the best of the best session musicians and vocalists from labels like volt and stax records to record and release futuristic boogie, soul, and funk. in his quest for a unique sound, he constantly reinvented himself, creating projects with new aliases and concepts, scraping together studio time, and hustling. even today, moores music sounds ahead of its time.

ikeaboy is the intermittent project from damian tubbritt, who first debuted the moniker more than ten years ago. it s been a long while since any fresh material from this deep cover curio of oddball techno hit wax, but now wicked bass have done the honourable thing and gathered up this excellent trio of tracks. shape memory plies a funky line in squelchy bass and jangling delay trills, while living in the future opts for a more mysterious, pad soaked trip into spooked out electro. on the b-side dayna sports some forthright drum machine beats and epic sweeps of synths that only serve to confound any expectations you might have about the sound of ikeaboy.
